The Nugget
Maybe down the line there will be some solace for the West Ferris Trojans.
Maybe in a couple weeks, they can sit down and appreciate the success of their once-in-a-generation season.
But for now, this one hurts for the NOSSA senior football champs, the first to emerge from North Bay, the Nipissing District or someplace other than Sault Ste. Marie in over 15 years.
The Trojans were never far from victory Wednesday at Centennial Field, but a strong start and a solid defence were not enough to push West Ferris past the host Richview Saints as the Toronto District finalists held on for a 12-10 OFSAA Bowl win on a cold and blustery morning in Etobicoke.
Zach Delorme had a monster game on the ground, rushing for 151 yards on 19 carries, including a 51-yard score in the first quarter, and Riley Anderson booted a field goal to give the Trojans a 10-9 lead in the opening 12 minutes.
But that was all the points West Ferris, making its first OFSAA Bowl appearance since 2004, could muster as another touchdown pass to Jesse Pledge was called back and two other field goal attempts were for naught.
