The annual Tomahawk Basketball and NDA High School Hockey tournaments take over local rinks and gymnasiums this weekend.
It's the 56th year for the Tomahawk boys basketball tournament, the oldest consecutive tournament in Canada, which was on hiatus last year due to high school labour action.
Six local teams Algonquin, Chippewa, Northern, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall, West Ferris and Widdifield are entered into the senior boys draw, which also includes teams from Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Barrie, Mississauga and Ottawa.
Algonquin, Almaguin Highlands, Chippewa, F.J. McElligott, Franco-Cite, Northern, Odyssee, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall, West Ferris and Widdifield are also entered in the junior boys draw.
Games tip off at 10:30 a.m. today.
The senior final is 8 p.m. Saturday at Chippewa Secondary School, preceded by the junior final at 6:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, it is the 40th year for the NDA High School Hockey Tournament, which kicks off this morning at 9 a.m. with Central Algoma Huskies taking on St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears at West Ferris Community Centre and the Superior Heights Steelhawks battling the NDA league-leading Algonquin Barons at Memorial Gardens.
Games will continue throughout the day at both rinks, with the semifinals and finals set for 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens on Sunday.
All six NDA teams Widdifield, West Ferris, Franco-Cite and Chippewa as well are in the mix with teams from Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Manitoulin Island and Burlington.
